IN LIGHT HEARTS WE CREATED A RESIDENCY SPACE FOR ARTISTS. THE EXISTING SITE WAS ADJACENT TO A CAUSEWAY AND HAD A FISHING PIER AS WELL AS A BEACH. WE CHOSE TO WORK UNDER THE EXISTING CAUSEWAY ADJACENT TO THE FISHING PIER SO THAT THE NORMATIVE CONDITION WOULD NOT BE INTERRUPTED, AND COULD CO-EXIST WITH THE NEW CONDITION. EACH RESIDENCY HAS THE SAME STRUCTURAL FRAME AND A UNIQUE “HEART” THAT SEEMINGLY FLOATS WITHIN THE FRAME. A PEDESTRIAN WALKWAY BEGINS WHERE THE CAUSEWAY MEETS THE GROUND AND MOVES THROUGH THE HEARTS OF EACH RESIDENCY. THIS PROVIDES EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS A MEANS OF ACCESS FOR THE RESIDENCE. THE SPECIFIC ART TYPE WE FOCUSED ON WAS PHOTOGRAPHY. WE CHOSE THIS BECAUSE THE WAY LIGHT FILTERS THROUGH DIFFERENT AREAS OF THE PROJECT PROVIDES UNIQUE WAS TO CAPTURE PHOTOS, ALSO THE ELEVATION OF THE PROJECT PROVIDES AMPLE VIEWS OF THE CITY AND THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND IT.
THIS ANIMATED GIF SHOWS THE VARIOUS ITERATIONS OF HEARTS WITHIN EACH FRAME. ONE CAN SEE THAT WHILE EACH HEART LOOKS DIFFERENT, THEY ARE ALL DERIVED FROM THE SAME EQUATION, MAKING IT SO WE CAN TRANSITION FROM ONE FRAME TO THE NEXT SEEMLESSLY.
