IN WINDOW TO THE COMMUNITY, THE SITE HAD AN EXISTING ART PIECE KNOWN AS THE LIVINGROOM THAT NEEDED TO BE INTEGRATED INTO THE DESIGN. A FEATURE OF THIS EXISTING STRUCTURE WAS A LARGE WINDOW THAT FACED ACROSS THE STREET TO A LARGE COMMERCIAL AREA. THIS PROJECT IS A COMMUNITY CENTER THAT WORKS AS THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN THE COMMERCIAL AND RESIDENTIAL AREAS ALONG NORTH MIAMI AVE. SEVERAL WINDOWS WERE OPENED ALONG THE PRIMARY ROAD TO PROVIDE “WINDOWS” INTO THE COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE DESIGN. THE GROUND FLOOR IS OPEN ACTING LIKE A FUNNEL FOR USERS TO THE LARGE CENTRAL STAIRCASE THAT SPIRALS THROUGH THE PROGRAMED LEVELS IN THE BUILDING. THE STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS WERE LEFT EXPOSED TO “FRAME VIEWS” ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE PROJECT. THE SITE IS LOCATED ON A CORNER, PROVIDING TWO PRIMARY AXIS FOR THE DESIGN, ALONG THE MAIN ROAD IS THE MORE PUBLIC FACE OF THE COMMUNITY CENTER WHILE MORE PRIVATE PROGRAMS ARE ORGANIZED ALONG THE RESIDENTIAL AXIS.
