IN “OPPOSING CONNECTIONS” WE BEGAN WITH THE STUDY OF A PAINTING BY VICTOR VASARELEY. IN THE PAINTING A GRID WAS DEFORMED TO GIVE THE ILLUSION OF A THREE DIMENSIONAL SPHERE PERTRUDING FROM THE PAGE, IN THE SPIRIT OF THAT, A PAVILLION WITH THE BASE OF A DUMB BOX WITH SHAPED PERTRUDING OUT OF IT WAS DESIGNED. THEN A GRID WAS CREATED USING GRASSHOPPER TO CREATE THE EXTERIOR SHAPES. THE INTERIOR OF THE PAVILION CONSISTS OF THE BOOLEANED SHAPES THAT FELL WITHIN THE CONFINDS OF THE DUMB BOX. THIS LEFT THE GRID TO CREATE THE ILLUSION OF A BOX WHERE THERE WASNT ONE. THE LAYOUT OF THE GRID ALSO ALLOWED FOR THE SHAPES TO DISAPEAR WHEN LOOKING AT THE PAVILION FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES AND DISTANCES. THE TITLE “OPPOSING CONNECTIONS” COMES FROM THE OPOSITION BETWEEN THE FREE FLOWING AND INTERACTIVE INTERIOR AND THE RIGID BOX THAT THE SHAPES WERE BUIOLT AROUND, AND THEY ARE CONNECTED THROUGH THE GRID THAT DEFINES THE EXTERIOR OF THE PROJECT.
THIS DIAGRAM SHOWS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR OF THE PROJECT. EVERYTHING OUTSIDE THE MODULE IS BUILD OF FRAMES THAT ALLOW LIGHT TO PENATRATE INTO THE INTERIOR, WHILE EVERYTHING ON THE INSIDE IS SOLID TO CREATE SPACES FOR THE PROGRAM.
